The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced plans to allocate new funding to combat the mental health crisis. Under the guidance of the Biden administration and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, HHS will award $15 million in grants to certified behavioral health clinics. These grants will help partially compensate for the shortage of mental health professionals, which the Association of American Medical Colleges estimates to be between 14,280 and 31,109 clinicians. This funding is the latest in the administration’s reaction to the pervasive and persistent substance use crisis in America.
